Short version

Nothing on this site needs your consent to measure how many people visit it. Our analytics are cookieless. The only component that stores anything in your browser is Google's advertising conversion tag, and only while we are running an ad campaign.

Why

We wanted to know which pages earn enquiries without following anybody around the internet to find out. So we measure visits on our own servers instead of handing the job to an advertising company, and we designed the measurement so that it cannot identify a person even in principle.

What we use instead of cookies

• Our own analytics, running on our servers. It records the pages opened, reading depth, time on page, buttons clicked, the referring site or search engine, the approximate town supplied by the hosting network, and the device type. Visits are grouped under a one-way salted hash of your network address and browser that is regenerated every night, so the grouping expires daily and works on this site only. Your IP address is never stored. Records are deleted after 24 months.
• Plausible Analytics and Umami, which count page views, referrers, country and device type at an aggregate level. No cookies, no personal data.
• Vercel, our host, which counts page views and page speed without cookies, and keeps short-term server logs (IP addresses, request times) for security, abuse prevention and performance debugging.

The one exception: Google Ads

When we advertise on Google, Google's conversion tag runs on this site so we can tell which adverts led to a genuine enquiry rather than paying for clicks that go nowhere. That tag stores an identifier in your browser for that purpose. It is measurement, not remarketing: we do not build audiences from it and we do not use it to show you adverts elsewhere.

If you would rather it did not run, blocking third-party advertising domains in your browser or using any standard content blocker prevents it. Nothing on this site breaks if you do.

What about embedded content?

We don't embed YouTube videos, Twitter timelines, Facebook widgets, or any other third-party content that would set tracking cookies on this site. If we ever do, we'll update this page first and add a consent banner.

What about the client sites we build?

Client sites we deliver vary. Some are fully cookieless (most of our work), some integrate with analytics or advertising platforms that require consent. Where consent is required, we build proper cookie consent banners with full granularity (accept, reject, customise), not the dark patterns common on the web.
